Landon Wright Named Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholar

Ashdown High School Senior Landon Wright is an Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholar for Little River County this year.

Landon Wright is the 2022 AHS Valedictorian and on May 7th was able to attend the Governor’s Scholastic Honors Day held at the Governor’s Mansion.

Landon is the son of Kelly and Emily Wright and plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University and major in chemistry with plans to become an optometrist.

While at Ashdown High School, Landon was the National Honor Society Vice-President, a member of Beta Club, Student Council President, and in band, football and track.


About the Arkansas Governor’s Scholars Program

In order to even be considered for the honor, a minimum composite score of 32 in the ACT must be made AND either a 3.50 academic grade point average or selection as a National Achievement Finalist or National Merit Finalist.

“This is a scholarship program to promote academic excellence and to encourage the state’s most talented graduates to enroll in Arkansas post-secondary educational institutions is created and established which shall be cited as the Arkansas Governor’s Scholars Program.”

According to a press release, “This is a prestigious award offered by the State of Arkansas and available for a span of four academic years. It can be used at any approved Arkansas public or private college or university. The scholarship can be used for tuition, mandatory fees, room and board.”
