Children’s Museum Programs in Texarkana: History Comes to Life Through Play
This summer, the Texarkana Museums System (TMS) invites children and families to step back in time with The History Playhouse, an engaging program that brings the past to life through the timeless joy of play. TMS gratefully acknowledges the Kiwanis Club of Texarkana for funding this initiative through its grant program.
Families looking for children’s museum programs in Texarkana will find hands-on learning, classic games, and local history combined in one engaging summer experience.
Children’s Museum Programs in Texarkana That Make History Fun
Designed for children ages 5–12, the program introduces participants to traditional games that once filled schoolyards, front porches, and family parlors long before screens and digital entertainment became part of everyday life. Guided by museum staff, children will learn and play classic games such as jacks, marbles, and TiddlyWinks, along with outdoor favorites including hopscotch and jump rope.
Learn Local History Through Play
Through four interactive sessions, participants will enjoy storytelling, hands-on activities, and friendly competition while discovering how children of earlier generations played together while engaging with history. Along the way, they will develop cooperation, creativity, and social skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for local history and culture.
Explore Two Historic Texarkana Museums
As an added benefit, participants will receive tours of the historic Ace of Clubs House and the Museum of Regional History. These immersive experiences allow children to explore authentic artifacts, tour historic buildings, and hear stories that connect our region’s past to its present.
Program Dates, Cost, and Registration
The History Playhouse is only $25 per child. Sessions will be held from 9am-11am on the following dates: June 30, July 7, July 14, and July 21.
