A Scholarship for Grace
Grace Comer was a student in TISD since she started first grade. Her plan was to graduate in May of 2019 with her friends and attend the University of North Texas in the fall. Grace had always been a lover of art, and the Art Department at UNT was exactly where she thought she would fit. Unfortunately, on August 29, 2018, Grace died from injuries she sustained in a terrible car wreck.
As Grace was such a big part of the Texas High School Art Department, students and staff wanted to celebrate her life and honor her talent through the development of a scholarship fund in her name. Hence, the Grace Comer Memorial Scholarship Fund came to be in remembrance of this precious young woman.
On Friday, February 1st, the THS Art Department, with help from local professional and student artists, hosted an art show and silent auction at the Sullivan Center to raise funds for this special scholarship fund in Grace’s name. Over 75 pieces of art were donated for auction, and pieces ranged from jewelry to sculpture to paintings. Students performed by singing and playing piano throughout the evening, while the school’s culinary arts students provided hors d’oeuvres for guests. With a packed house of parents, students, teachers, and community members, the outpouring of love for Grace and her family was shown.
