Parent Profile: Mali Glass
by Melissa Blair
Mali Glass, mommy to Rivers 4, Judah 3, and Bear, 1 is originally from West Memphis, Arkansas. She was formerly a counselor but is now a fishing buddy, boo boo kisser, dirt cleaner, and mother to three boys.
What are you currently reading?
The Big Picture by Tommy Nelson (for the third time). The book of Matthew in Bible Study Fellowship.
What’s the favorite book you’ve read to your kids?
They love the Jesus Storybook Bible and anything about sharks.
Most embarrassing thing your kid has said in public?
While grocery shopping with my boys a man stopped us and said, “Wow, three boys”. Before he could say anything else Rivers, without looking up, said, “Yeah bless her heart, she has her hands full”. I laughed and turned red at the same time. They have heard that phrase many times.
When did you know you wanted to be a parent?
When I met my husband many years ago. He is an amazing man who loves God and I knew I wanted to be a parent with him.
Parent gear you can’t live without?
Fishing poles and mud boots.
If you could go back in time to a moment with your child when would it be?
Their birthdays were some of the most wonderful days of my life. I would do it all again!
If you could teleport to anywhere in the world to spend a day by yourself, where would you go?
An amusement park so I could ride all of the non-kid friendly rollercoasters.
I wish my kids would eat…
Less dirt
My kids won’t eat, and I won’t even eat….
Candy (that’s totally not true but I felt the need to say it because my husband is a pediatric dentist!)
Proudest parent moment to date:
I give all the praise to God for anything good. I am always pleased to see that my boys are loving, adventurous, silly, and fullof energy (like oh my goodness energy). They are my greatest teachers and friends.
My favorite childhood movie growing up was…
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. I was a weird kid.
When I was a new parent I was terrified of…
Mom blogs. It is hard enough being a mom without blogs on how to plan the best birthday party or 10 things never to do as a parent.
Advice I offer to new parents:
Have fun, let them get dirty, remember everyone else is trying to figure it out too, and God is bigger than our mistakes!!
Favorite thing to do with kids:
Playing on our backyard farm.
I hope to teach my kids how to…
Love God and love others.
Do you have a favorite family tradition?
At Christmas time my boys love to dress up and act out the nativity story. It is a sweet time to talk about the birth of Jesus Christ and they love taking turns acting like a baby.
What is your favorite time spent as a family?
We love to travel, hike, and camp as a family. My husband and I don’t like to sit still so we are always driving to a new river or hiking trail with the boys.
A product you swear by?
We go through paper towels like it’s our job!
Best parenting advice you’ve ever received?
My parents always say, “Life is a wonderful ride, might as well put your hands up and enjoy it.” I think about this a lot when I am struggling with how to raise my boys. It also helps me remember that I am raising my hands up in submission to God, the ultimate creator and sustainer.
Is there anything new you’d like to try with your family this year?
Aim. If you have boys you know what I am talking about.
