- Set aside some time for family activities that don’t involve any digital media. Yes, movie night is fun, but try something more hands-on or get outside for a change of pace.
- Try cutting down on screen time before bed; this means you, too, mom & dad. Studies show that electronic use before bed creates restless sleep patterns.
- Do some research about what apps and games really do provide intellectual benefit instead of putting anything with bright colors in front of your child.
- The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no TV for babies under age 2. Hands-on activities and simple interaction with people offer more educational stimulation.
- Consider not having a television in your child’s room, especially if he or she is having trouble in school.
- Bring along some game or story ideas for your next road trip instead of a stack of DVD’s. Remember when all we had was the license plate game?
- When you aren’t watching TV, turn it off. This small move can make a big impact, and cut down on your electric bill.
