Ashdown Cheer Teams Participate in NCA Cheer Camp
Ashdown High School Varsity Cheer swept the final day of National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Camp competitions. They took home 1st place in both Top Team Cheer and Top Team Chant and also received a Technical Excellence award for motions from the NCA staff. This means their motions stood out as exemplary to NCA staff among the camp teams. They also received Superior level evaluations from NCA staff for cheer, chant, and band chant and received a bid to NCA nationals and special events! NCA Camp held at Ashdown High School July 19-21.
All American nominees were: Anna Arnold, Audrey Kate Bishop, Ella Bowman, Sara Bowman, Chevi Flournoy, Allison Garner, Zoie Hurd, Makayla Lawson, Bailey Miller, Aly Mills, Ashlee Waller, Caroline Wrinkle, Billye Grace Young.
Those who made the All American team: Ella Bowman, Sara Bowman, Allison Garner, Makayla Lawson, and Aly Mills.
Makayla Lawson was the Top All American, meaning she had the highest All American tryout score of the camp!
Chevi Flournoy was given the Individual Leadership Award; which means she stood out to NCA staff as the camper with the greater leadership skills, who exemplified what it means to not only be a cheerleader, but a great team leader through her example and hard work.
AHS Cheer Coach Britany Crow said, “What a great week of camp! Awards were very good to us today. Very proud of the hard work this team has put in this week. It has paid off! Looking forward to an even better year!”
On the high school level, other teams in the competition were Taylor, Hope, Foreman, Fouke, Haworth, and Horatio.
Ashdown Junior High School Cheer Team also competed in the NCA Cheer Competition July 19-21. The team won first place on top cheer, spirit stick, and all girls on the team were nominated for NCA All-American. Samantha Huddleston was named All-American and she received the Pin It Forward Award and Leadership Award.
On two evaluations, the team received Superior Level for cheer and chant and on their third evaluation, they received excellent for band chant.
On the junior high level, Haworth Middle School, Fouke, Foreman and Nashville competed. Ashdown, Taylor, Hope, Foreman, Fouke, Haworth, and Horatio competed on the high school level.
